Our First Day

After our long wait in Toronto and our really long flight we arrived at Ben Gurion airport a few minutes late!  It was a great flight and a great beginning to our Israel Experience.

Once we cleared passport control and retrieved our bags it was off to our bus. We met our wonderful tour guide, Dafna, and our bus driver Hanoch. Off to Jerusalem!  As we entered the city, we listened to the song Yerushalayim Shel Zahav to set the mood. Our first first stop was at the Haas Promenade which overlooks Jerusalem. Photo op!  We said Shechechiyanu here, had a quick lunch and played a few ice breakers with Dafna. Then it was off to the hotel, Beit Shmuel. We checked in, cleaned up, changed and headed off to the Old City which is only a short walk away. It was Erev Shabbat, so very busy as many people were going to the Kotel. So many interesting sights and people!

The Kotel is always an emotional experience but even more so on Erev Shabbat. As the sun began to set our group gathered and sang Shabbat songs, linked arm in arm. All those tunes that we sing in school every Friday became so meaningful. Many people stopped to watch us. Another special Israel Experience and it's only been a few hours!

Our first evening ended with Shabbat dinner at the hotel and then an early bedtime. Laila Tov!
